SUNFIELD FARM & SCHOOL - E-Newsletter—September 2, 2010

As summer winds down, the farm and forest are benefiting from all the rain we’ve been having. At our last Donor Appreciation Luncheon on the 19th, 10 of us huddled under a canopy and then everyone wanted to tour the farm—so we did—and then had lunch.

This is your invitation to join us for our next luncheon on Thursday, September 23rd, from 11 -12 p.m. For those who come, you’ll be seeing our Sunfield students in action--11:00 -11:45 a.m. is their farm chore period. BRING A FRIEND WITH YOU IF YOU’D LIKE. Space is limited so Please RSVP to me at 385.3658, or jmeyer@sunfieldfarm.org. I’m grateful to get to meet more of you, our generous donors, who support our work in land stewardship, biodynamic farming, community education and the Waldorf School. This is not an “Ask” event.

Three other opportunities to join us on the farm:

For the opening ceremony of the new school year, in our big field at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, the 8th. This will last about 20 minutes.

The Jefferson County Annual Farm Tour is on Sunday, September 19th, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and I’ll be here, along with our farmers and some of our faculty.

Friday, the 24th, Sunfield mom Jude Rubin will lead a Nature Walk from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. This is free, open to the public, so again we’d like an RSVP. The end of the nature walk will coincide with the beginning of the students’ farm chore period.

You can also join us for farm work days: Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. to harvest and prepare our CSA baskets and Fridays, from 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m., followed by a potluck lunch and your chance to harvest for yourself. Does anyone have a small electric scale they can donate for our market stand?

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: Our first visiting children will be coming from Chimacum Public School at the end of September, followed by a brand new event—a Third Grade Jamboree of Waldorf School children from the Seattle area. They will be spending two days and a night on the farm! These visits are our time to introduce children to a working farm, to how their food is grown and raised, land stewardship, animal husbandry and wildlife conservation. Our students, during their farm chore period, act as docents to the visiting children.

Please join us for one or more of these events. I look forward to meeting you and having you experience some of this beautiful, magical piece of land. Thanks for all the ways you support Sunfield!
